REl'EGETAT?UN: R,evegetat:on of the disturoed areas will c.ccur in two
stages. The first stage will be the seeC:ng and establishiment of a
pere~n;al grass and 'orb cover us:r~g a seed m:•t_re appropriate to the
si*_e anc capable =` prod u,_ing fast and th.c F: growth. This, is
necessary to crr--ate a rapid protection of the site against erosion.
The seeC mir:ture to be used is as follows:
SNYDER ROADSIDE DISTURBANCES SEED MIXTURE
(Based on a Broadcast Pate)
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
SPECIES lb/acre seeds/lb seeds/sgft
INTERMEDIATE WHEAT. (SOD) 7 97000 15.59
PUBESCENT WHEAT. (EDD) 7 90000 14.46
SLENDER WHEATGRASS (BUNCH) 5 160000 18.37
RUSSIAN WILDP.YE (BUNCH) 6 175000 24.10
ALFALFA RANGER (INNOC.) 2 210000 9.64
YELLOW ~WEETCLOVER (INNOC.)
-----------------------
--- .5
--- 260000
----------- 2.98
-----------
--
27 .5 992000 85.15
The seed mixture will be broadcast on the site within a week or
two of the completion of grading or soil placement. Exper-~ence has
shown that delaying beyond that period of time results in a reduced
initial growth. Because it is expected the grading and soil placement
will occur during the fall and winter months, the seeding will be done
in the fall or winter.
The slopes t.o be seeded are north facing. Therefore., the use of
mulch would not only be unnecessary but undesirable. A mulch
encourages the accumulation of moisture in the soil which, if
excessive, can induce slumping. This was a very significant problem
on the Vail Pass highway protect where straw mulch was co~:ered with
~~ute net. This treatment on fail Pass even ineuced some ~jegree of
slumping on south facing slopes. Of course here the moisture received
is far less than is the case on Vail Pass, but the retention of
moisture can still be signif~can± and .educe instability in the slope
' mul r .5 t~s:-:,.
The mis:ture shown abov= .~ similar :n many respects to the
. lure that was app!:ed to the steep, north-`acing road =uts along
the Pikeview Quarry Road. That seeding has been highly successful
even though the parent material was the growth medium (no soil was
..sed) .

Faqe 5 of 8 SIJI'DER n^OAD CORRECTIVE ACTiUN PLAN
