for the expected flow rate of 3000 gallons per minute. This was determined from a
laboratory test conducted by Hychem on the actual dirty water at the exit of Gold Pond 1.
Therefore, since the gold operation uses a process flow rate of 3000 gallons per minute
for an expected 10 hour day, the chemical will be used at the average rate of 10 gallons
per day.
See enclosed data from Hychem and Tons Per Hour.
This material will be added by filling the 500 gallon tank with the liquid chemical, which
is available in 55 gallon drums or in non-returnable liqui-bins weighing 2300 pounds
each. The tank will also have a mixer and a small pump to move the liquid in a 1" pipe
until it mixes with a 2" pipe with clean water from the large tank in the storage building.
After this junction, the mixture will flow in a 3" pipe for a distance of approximately 120
feet until the inlet of the 18" CMP is reached as shown on the blowup detail of Map C-4.
The remaining distance of the channel and the settling time provided by Gold Pond 2
allow all solids to settle out and the pond will discharge clean water in Gold Pond 3.
There will be no chemical left in the water after the water leaves Gold Pond 2. For this
reason, only the channel after the 18" CMP and Gold Pond 2 require lining to ensure that
no water seepage occurs when the chemical is present. To provide further insurance, Pond
3 will be lined as well. This lining is only a precaution anyway, since all water that flows
from this location is trapped in Pond A, which has an engineered containment design.
Also, the chemical is not toxic to animals in dry or wet form.
3. Pond Cleanout
Using the laboratory test result of 3.4% solids in the dirty water, this means that, for a
total flow of 401 cubic feet/minute, the solids are 13.6 cubic feet per minute. Assuming
that the settled solids have 40% water by weight, this means that 19.0 cubic feet/minute
of "muck" will require removal from Gold Pond 2. For 10 hours of operation, this is
11,400 cubic feet per day, or 422 cubic yards. Much of the water will drain rapidly from
the muck as it is placed on the bank along the pond. The dry solids removed from the
pond are expected to be approximately 250 cubic yards. Cleanout of the pond will be a
continual process, with a full cleaning required at the end of each operating day. All muck
extracted will be allowed to drain for a few days and the semi-dry material will be hauled
8/7/06 Addendum to Sediment Control System Page 2
