Savage yvA1J`-
RE: Cessation Order C-84-167
On November 1, 1984, Brian Munson and I issued MLR Cessation Order C-84-167
for unsecured explosives in an unapproved location at the Trinidad Basin
Mine. The abatement for the cessation order was to remove the explosives, or
place them in an approved location in an approved container.
On November 2, 1984, I telephoned Greg Lewicki, consultant for Trinidad Basin,
who had accompanied us during the November 1, 1984, inspection. Mr. Lewicki
stated that he and personnel from Trinidad Basin Mining had contacted an
approved and licensed blaster to remove the explosive materials from the
bunker in an approved containment device and take them off site,
November 1, 1984.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. on November 2, 1984, I telephoned Mr. Lawrence
Riviera of the Mine Safety and Health Administration to inform him of the
situation at the Trinidad Basin Mine Mr. Riviera and a team from MSHA went to
the Trinidad Basin Mine to inspect the site and report back. Later in the
day, Mr. Riviera contacted me and stated that they had found some dynamite and
primer cord on-site and had detonated it. An extensive search by MSHA had not
resulted in finding any further explosive materials.
/md
Doc.
