b
The attached diagram shows a portion of the mine map for the RSN
and the proposed pumping sequence to get the water out of the
mine. Location 1 represents the pump near the operating face
where the dirty water is generated. It is pumped to a small sump
at location 2 where it has a short settling time before it is
pumped to the top of the 3rd North Mains. From the top of the
3rd North it flows on the ground to location 3, the North Sump.
Here the water has from 1 to 3 days residence time. Currently
this water is pumped from this location to the surface through
the pump located at Location 7, 5 and 8 with less than a half day
residence time along the route. water from Locations 5 and 6 is
combined with this discharge at a random interval. The proposed
pumping sequence from location 3 to the discharge point involves
pumping to location 4, the Main Sump, where it is combined with
water pumped from location 5. A pump at location 4 is used for
the mine water supply system. The excess water from this sump
will be piped to the sealed area of the No. 1 East Mains to be
mixed with the normal flow from behind the seals. From location
6 the water will be gravity piped to location 7 for pumping to
location 8 where it will be pumped for discharge. Locations 4
and 6 will add an estimated 4 days to the residence time and will
allow a more uniform mixing with water from locations 5 and 6.
Most of the piping has been installed to accomplish this pumping
change. A pressure switch to activated the pump at location 8
is the only thing holding up the change. The switch has been
ordered and should be in by the May 29, 1996, implementation
dated given in the NOV. if this does not take care of the
problem, water will be pumped to the abandoned panel opposite
location 2 for longer settling time.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
J~j~~~~~
Larry M.
