Box 3609 Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Grand Junction, CO 81502
Re: 15 Road Pif, Permit No. M-2002-114, Seed Mix Substitution, Need For A Technical
Revision (TR-01).
Dear Mr. Kerr:
Staff has received United's request to change two species of vegetation within the originally
approved seed mix for the above referenced reclamation permit. After consultations with the
Denver Office it appears that the request will have to be done as a Technical Revision (TR-01).
Overall, the substitution of the Prairie Cord Grass and Nebraska Sedge for Canadian Reed
Grass and Carex appears to improve the overall mix over the original approved one. The only
question staff has is the pls /acre ratios and over all seeds per square foot for the species are
extremely different for reed grass and cord grass and must be addressed. A straight seed mix
substitution results in a different seeds per square foot ration that may not necessarily be
beneficial. Please submit the pls /acres ratios to be used with the substitute species and
overall changes in seeds per square foot with the TR Fee of $188.00. Upon receipt of the
information and the fee there should be no problem approving the change. Currently, United's
request will be filed as an "incomplete" TR request.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
~-
G.
