INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of wetland delineation studies conducted at ten sites in
the vicinity of the South Platte River near Ft. Lupton, Colorado. The sites (Table 1) are located
southwest of Ft. Lupton and extend for a distance of approximately three miles on the west side
of the South Platte River. They occur in parts of Township 1 North Range 66 West, Sections 7,
18 and 19; and in parts of Township 1 North, Range 67 West, Sections 1, 12, 13 and 24 (Maps 1
and 2).
Table 1. Five of the properties, at least in part, are crossed
by the South Platte River. The second major drainage in the area is Big Dry Creek, which enters
the area from the southwest and crosses three of the properties. The third major drainage is a
tributary to Big Dry Creek, which enters the area from the south and crosses two of the
properties. This tributary carries natural run off from upland areas south of the project site, and
also augmented by water diverted from the South Platte River (the diversion point is located on
the Rittenhouse property). In addition to these natural drainages, several major irrigation
distribution ditches and numerous irrigation laterals cross the properties.
-1-
