(EFCI) respectfully request extension of the date for
abatement of NOV C-93-101.
Required Remedial Action: 1) Display mine identification sign at intersection of surface disturbance
boundary and main county road leading to mine, 2) Erect perimeter markers along north side of mine (north
of sediment pond 4), along west side of mine, along outside shoulder of refuse pile access road, around
substation, rock dust bin, powder magazine and road, an exhaust fan and road through GEC permit azea,
and 3) Repaint topsoil marker at northwest comer of mine (near refuse pile).
Current Abatemeat Status: EFCI has abated Steps 1 and 3 described above. In addition, EFCI has
completed marking and/or maintaining 78 percent of the dismrbed area perimeter line around the mine
facility and refuse pile.
Complete abatement will require placement of perimeter markers azound surface facilities which
currently do not have a disturbed area boundary approved as part of the permit application. FuAher, EFCI
does not agree with inclusion of certain public and private road sections within disturbed area boundaries as
we discussed by phone. EFCI will require approval of the additional disturbed area boundaries through
revision of permit Map 18 (abatement for NOV C-93-102) prior to marking the perimeter.
The required abatement date for marking the perimeter is July 30, 1993. Given the need for DMG
concurrence with proposed dismrbed area boundaries, EFCI is requesting extension of the abatement date for
NOV C-93-101 to September 15, 1993.
Please contact me if you have any questions or require additional information.
Sincerely,
~CFl~
Allen S.
