I have reviewed your letter of August 10, regazding the County's planned Sand and Gravel operation.
Your letter does not provide us with information relative to possible water discharges from the mine.
We can not conclusively state whether a permit is or is not needed.... _
I have attached an application for the County's use. A permit will be necessary if there will be any
discharge of water associated with the mining operation. This would include pit dewatering, gravel
washing operations and similar activities. The application lists, under item 8 on page 2, the different
waters which if discharged would require a permit. Please review this before filling out the
application. If you do not discharge any of these waters a permit is not needed. A stotlttwater permit
is not needed since Ouray County is under 100,000 in population. It takes about 30 days to be covered
under our Sand and Gravel general permit.
