Pie/iminary Adequacy Review (PAR/ for 112c ~~
Conversion (CN-01/.~
Dear Mr. Ripp:
The Division of Minerals and Geology has begun the review process of the above
referenced conversion of a 1 10c to a.1 12c for the Corey Pit # 3. A Preliminary Adequacy
Review (PAR) has identified the following issues that need to be clarified or corrected.
Please address-the following:
1)' Please respond to comments and concerns submitted by the Shavano Conservation
District. A copy of those comments is enclosed.
2) Please respond to comments and concerns submitted by the Office of State
Engineer. A copy of those comments is enclosed. Also, in the Mining Plan under
6.4.4 Icl, the seep referenced during irrigation season could be noted as exposed
groundwater. Staff asks that MVR and /or the operator consult the local Water
Resources Office for a review of the situation. If it is exposed groundwater please
refer to item #7 below.
3) In Exhibit D, The Mining Plan, there is a reference to excavation of gravel up to an
85 foot buffer zone along the south and west sides of the proposed boundaries.
From there, it appears that the remaining resource will be mined in a cut and push
method back to the 25 final buffer zone. Please clarify that this is the intended
method of mining for the noted area. Also, staff asks for a commitment by the
operator to mark these buffer zones adequately prior to commencement of mihing to
assure that over excavation cannot occur.
4) Within Exhibit D, there should be a narration on the types of hazardous materials
(fuel, oils, etc.1 that will be on site at any time and a detailed description of spill
protection measures (secondary containment) to be employed at the site.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation ARive and Inactive Mines Geological 8urve~~;
