Long
Urvision Onenor
We have received the information submitted to comply with Step No. 2 of the required steps
to abate the above mentioned notice. The submittal states that the downstream end of Culvert
A-3 will be stabilized with straw dikes. The informational pages include the disclaimer that
"straw bale barriers can be successfully used only in areas of unconcentrated flow." We were
initially concerned that given the estimated discharge and velocity, the dikes would not be
successful when used at Culvert A-3. During the Division's October 16th inspection, it was
noted that rock lining and porous rock check dams had been placed at the inlet and outlet of
the culvert. We believe this, in combination with the straw dikes, should be more than
sufficient to minimize erosion and siltation at the culvert outlet. As such, the plan submitted
is acceptable and should be implemented by October 31, 1993, as required in Step No. 3 of the
abatement plan.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Burg aier
Environmental Protection Specialist
SLB\ 101893.
