Geotechnical Engineering Report
Eagleview Drainage Channel
Southwest of "F" Street and 35`h Avenue
Terracon Project No. 21035051 Terracon
Lateral Earth Pressures
For soils under undrained conditions, recommended equivalent fluid pressures for unrestrained
foundation elements are:
• Active:
Cohesionless soil backfill (on-site sand) ................................. 85 psf/ft
• Passive:
Cohesionless soil backfill (on-site sand) ...............................325 psf/ft
• Coefficient of base friction ...........................................................0.35*
*The coefficient of base friction should be reduced to 0.30 when used in conjunction
with passive pressure.
Where the design includes restrained elements, the following equivalent fluid pressures are
recommended:
• At rest:
Cohesionless soil backfill (on-site sand) ...............................125 psf/ft
The lateral earth pressures herein do not include any factor of safety. Fill against retaining walls
should be compacted to densities specified in Earthwork. Compaction of each lift adjacent to walls
should be acwmplished with hand-operated tampers or other lightweight compactors.
Overcompaction may cause excessive lateral earth pressures which could result in wall movement.
Seismic Considerations
The project site is located in Seismic Risk Zone I of the Seismic Zone Map of the United States as
indicated by the 1997 Uniform Building Code. Based upon the nature of the subsurface materials, a
soil profile type Sd should be used for the design of structures for the proposed project (1997 Uniform
Building Code, Table No. 16-J).
5
