Over the years we have greatly increased our knowledge about the
successful reclamation of alluvial sand and gravel pits. With a better
understanding of hoc• to improve the overall quality of our reclamation and
through a review of some of our older permits we have worked with a number
of owners in order to revise and update the existing reclamation plans for
certain pits.
The primary change in the reclamation plan for the Nelson Pit pertains
to the grading plan we are seeking approval for. The Previous plan called
for three large lakes to be created over the life of the mining and reclamation.
Today, we believe that a number of smaller lakes will provide a much higher
quality habitat for this pit. Aside from the revised grading plan the other
change will be the number of stages associated with the mining and reclamation.
Revisions to the stages of mining and reclamation were necessitated by the
overall changes proposed for the reclamation of the property.
As you can see, the revised plans are much more detailed both for grading
and revegetation and will result in a better reclamation product for this pit.
Other than the changes mentioned above the operation remains essentially the
same. The permit boundary, number of affected acres and the maximum surface
disturbance will remain the same. We anticipate mining at this pit to last
through the year 2000; however, as you know that kind of timetable is largely
determined by market factors over which we have little or no control.
Along with this letter I am sending, several sets of drawings which
illustrate the changes we are proposing. After you've had an opportunity to
review our request please let me know if you require any additional information.
Sincerely,/
Mike Hart
