The simples were <br />rinsed with a solution consisting of deionized water frith the pH <br />adjusted to 5.0-5.5. The rinsing was performed by mixing <br />approximately a 12 to 1 liquid to solid ratio in a' zero head <br />space container and allowing the solution to equilibrate <br />overnight. The liquid was then decanted and analyzed for pH and <br />conductivity. This rinsing procedure was continued u til the pH <br />of the leachates had either turned acidic or sta ilized for <br />three rinsing cycles.
