Re: Thunderbolt Mine, Permit No. M-1977-287, Surety and Reclamation Release Request (SL-
Ol).
Dear Mr. Curtis:
The Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) has received Umetco's reclamation release request for
the above referenced permit. Per Rule 4.16.2, the Denver Office will be sending out the required notice
to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Montrose. Through a memo of understanding (MOU),
the fmal decision to release or deny Umetco's request will rest with the BLM. Staff will accompany the
BLM on a site inspection if they so desire, but it is not mandatory that DMG be present. The BLM
decision still must be made within the required time table set forth within the Minerals Regulations. An
inspection is required within 60 days of receipt of the request and a decision 30 days after the inspection.
An inspection will be done prior to June 17`x, 2002. This Office has been in contact with Ms. Lewis of
the BLM and the inspection should be done rather quickly.
