~.

3. Free Cyanide in the Ponds
In a report for Battle Mountain Gold, ASCI demonstratled a method
for determining Free Cyanide concentrations in proces~ solutions.
The method is as follows:
a. Measure WAD cyanide and copper concentrations using
conventional techniques.
b. Assume that all copper is tied up as co~per-cyanide
complexes, and that these complexes cau a positive
interferences with the WAD analysis.
c. Calculate the amount of cyanide that is tied up by the
copper.
d. Subtract the cyanide calculated in step C, above, and
show the result as Free Cyanide.
Samples for a field test were collected May 11, 1992.. Using the
method described above, ASCI reported the following:
Lower Pond Measured Calculated
(PPm) (PPm)
Copper 170
Total Cyanide 189
WAD Cyanide 166
Free Cyanide 134 32
Collection Pond Measured Calculated
(PPm) (PPm)
Copper 120
Total Cyanide 126
WAD Cyanide 112
Free Cyanide 80 32
