i 1 ' U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR ' ~ OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING RECLAMATION AND ENFORCEMENT NOTICE OF A DECISION AND AVAILABILITY OF A TECHNICAL ANALYSIS FOR Colowyo Mine Colowyo Coal Company Moffat County, Colorado The United States Department of the Interior, in accordance with the Hineral Leasing Act of 1920, as amended, and section 523 of the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977, has approved Colowyo Coal Company's Colowyo mine mining plan for surface coal mining activities in Federal lease C-29224. The documentation for the decision was prepared by the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE). The Colowyo surface coal mine is located in southeastern Moffat County, Colorado. The mine has been in operation since 1977. The mining plan area contains approximately 335 acres. Mine production will be 4.5 million tons of coal per year, and mining is expected to continue for approximately 25 years. Pursuant to 40 CFR Sections 1501.4(e) and 1506.6, notice is hereby given that OSlII2E has found that ao significant environmental impacts would result from such approval based on as Environmental Assessment prepared by OSMRE and Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division's Decision and Findings of Compliance Document. Approval of Colowyo Coal Company's mining plan was in accordance with 30 CFR Part 746. OSMRE's Environmental Assessment concluded that no significant impacts to the quality of the human environment would result from such approval; therefore, an environmental impact statement was not prepared.
