i <br />1 <br />' U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR <br />' ~ OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING <br />RECLAMATION AND ENFORCEMENT <br />NOTICE OF A DECISION AND AVAILABILITY <br />OF A TECHNICAL ANALYSIS FOR <br />Colowyo Mine <br />Colowyo Coal Company <br />Moffat County, Colorado <br />The United States Department of the Interior, in accordance with the Hineral <br />Leasing Act of 1920, as amended, and section 523 of the Surface Mining Control <br />and Reclamation Act of 1977, has approved Colowyo Coal Company's Colowyo mine <br />mining plan for surface coal mining activities in Federal lease C-29224. The <br />documentation for the decision was prepared by the Office of Surface Mining <br />Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE). <br />The Colowyo surface coal mine is located in southeastern Moffat County, <br />Colorado. The mine has been in operation since 1977. The mining plan area <br />contains approximately 335 acres. Mine production will be 4.5 million tons of <br />coal per year, and mining is expected to continue for approximately 25 years. <br />Pursuant to 40 CFR Sections 1501.4(e) and 1506.6, notice is hereby given that <br />OSlII2E has found that ao significant environmental impacts would result from <br />such approval based on as Environmental Assessment prepared by OSMRE and <br />Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division's Decision and Findings of Compliance <br />Document. Approval of Colowyo Coal Company's mining plan was in accordance <br />with 30 CFR Part 746.
