• <br />s <br /> <br />ANALYTICAL -GENERAL <br />Preoaration of Standards <br />Sodium Cyanide Stock Standards <br />1000 ppm CN: Dissolve 1.885 g NaCN and 1 gram NaOH in distilled water and <br />dilute to 1 litre in a volumetric flask. This is equivalent to 1. mg <br />CN/mL (1000 µgCN/mL or 1000 ppm CN). <br />]0 ppm CN: Take 10 mLs of the 1000 ppm CN standard and dilute this to 1 <br />litre in a volumetric flask to yield a l0µgCN/mL stock solution. <br />Laboratory Workine Standards for Calibration <br />Take seven (7) 100 volumetric flasks and add 25 mL of buffered picric acid <br />reagent to each. Then add the cyanide solution and distilled water as given below. Heat <br />as instructed on the following page. Other standards can be generated but atr: not <br />required for general operation of the Inco Process. <br />Note: <br />Blank: Add 50 mL distilled water. <br />20 µgCN: Add 2 mL of 10 ppm stock and 48 mL of distilled water. <br />50 µgCN: Add 4 mL of 10 ppm stock and 45 mL of distilled water. <br />100 µgCN; Add 8 mL of 10 ppm stock and 40 mL of distilled water. <br />150 µgCN; Add 12 mL of 10 ppm stock and 35 mL of distilled water. <br />200 µgCN; Add 16 mL of 10 ppm stock and 30 mL of distilled water. <br />250 µgCN: Add 25 mL of 10 ppm stock and 25 mL of distilled water. <br />Standards are to be bulked to exactly 100 mis volume after processed from <br />hot plate and cooled to room temperature. <br />u.~mwu.rncsm 12 <br />
