Colorado.
The existing Sunday Mine Reclamation (112) Permit, submitted to the Colorado Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety (DAMS) on September 30, 1977 includes 20 acres of surface disturbance. An amendment to
the application, submitted and approved by DAMS on May 23, 1983, includes an additional 20 acres of surface
disturbance. This total of 40 acres encompasses the entire existing surface disturbance at the Sunday Mine.
A notice of intent to resume operations at the Sunday Mine was submitted to the DAMS on July 13, 2006. This
new activity requires the addition of five vent holes, for which approximately 3.90 acres of new disturbance will
be created. Based on the existing disturbance at the Sunday Mine Complex (40 acres) and the permitted
disturbed area (40 acres), the additional surface disturbance for the new vent holes will require a permit
amendment.
Updated maps showing the project location and the five new vent hole locations are included. Each vent hole is
anticipated to disturb approximately 0.25 acres (total disturbance of 1.5 acres) and access roads to the vent holes
are anticipated to disturb approximately 2.65 acres. No additional disturbance is anticipated at the Sunday Mine
portal area; therefore, the total increase in disturbed area at this time will be 3.90 acres for a total of 43.90 acres
of disturbance in the amended permit. Additional vent holes will be required to support future operations at the
mine; however, the location of these vent holes is currently undetermined. An additional 16.1 acres of disturbed
area is requested on this permit to raise the total permitted area to 60.0 acres. Submittals will be provided to
DAMS on a notice level basis for approval prior to any surface disturbing activities. The permit amendment
application with changes for the five proposed vent holes is enclosed.
Enclosed are two copies of the application with the same content as required for an original application, updated
figures showing proposed surface disturbance (new), and amended exhibits. Information which duplicates
applicable previous submittals is not included in this application and these sections are subsequently left blank.
The fee fora 112 Permit Amendment ($1550.00) is also enclosed. One check in the amount of $1700.00 is
included to cover the $1550.00 fee for the Sunday 112 Amendment and a Technical Revision fee ($150.00) to
all of the Sunday Mine Complex permits for a new BLM approved seed mix. The Technical Revision is
submitted under separate cover dated May 7, 2007.
