GRAND JUNCTION
LINCOLN DeVORE, Inc.
GEOTECHMCAL ENGINEERS - GEOLOG fSTS
1441 Motor St.
Grand Junction, CO 81505
Grand Junction Pipe
P.O. Box 1849
Grand Junction, CO 81502
Re: Surficial Geology [nvestigation
23 Road Proposed Gravel Pit
Grand Junction, Colorado
Deaz Mr. Ed Settle,
Febnuuy 26, 2002
'iEL: (970)34?-8968
FAX: (970)242-1561
At the request of Mr. Ed Settle, PE of Grand Junction Pipe, personnel from this office have completed a ground
reconnaissance of the above referenced site on 2-6-02. The purpose of this ground reco~~a~~~ce and our
literature search is to determine the general geologic conditions and constraints relating to construction on the site.
This study was performed in a manner so as to be in general compliance with the requirements of C.R.S. 30-28-
101 (Senate Bill 35). Following are our findings.
TRACT LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
The trnct lies in the Southeast Quarter of Section 6, Township 1 South, Range 1 West of the Ute Principal
Meridian, Mesa County, Colorado. The tract is bounded to the east by 23 Road and to the south by the Colorado
River. The tract contains approximately 75 acres.
The topography ofthe tract is generally flat, with a very gentle sloe to the south. The topography in the immediate
vicinity of the Colorado River north bank is somewhat broken, due to typical river floodplain features associated
with a reasonably `controlled' river flow. Remnants of rrsxraler scrolls, natural levees and overbook deposits are
evideat on the existing ground surface, within 300 feet of the existing bank. The site has an elevation of
appre:~imately4500= 520 feetabcves-:a.te°.•el,us:gtheUS.G.S.7-:f2minuY..;.r.:ppirgcf~~Ce'or3clo:~obanil
Monument quadrangle.
The trail has been used for agricultural activities and storage of various rceks, stockpiled from previous gravel
extraction . The northern portion of the tract has been subject to imgation and is drained toward old, shallow drain
ditches, eventually discharging is the Colorado River. Surface drainage is fair to good and the subsurface drainage
is fair.
GENERAL GEOLOGY
The general geology of this azea consists of a thick series of gently dipping (4 to 8 degrees to the northeast)
sedimentary beds, covered with thin deposits of unconsolidated alluvial coarse grained and fine grained soils. This
tract is believed to be underlain by portions of the Dakota Formation and the Mancos shale, which do not outcrop
on this site.
