While the Town of Gypsum believes Lafazge is an excellent company, the
Town must oppose the approval of the permit primarily for the lack of information
supplied in the application. Information the Town would like to see included with the
application is as follows:
1. Most important to the Town are potential impact to the riparian and river corridor.
It appears the new expansion request moves closer to the river. The maps
included do not depict the flow boundaries or any maps delineating wetlands or
riparian area. Are there any impacts to riparian or wildlife habitat? What
measures are there to mitigate any impacts?
2. Gravel pits are typically high impact for dust problems. Having said that, Lafarge
does a good job at their pit in the Roaring Fork Valley. Can the same dust
suppression measures be taken to reduce dust pollution at this pit as they have
done in other locations?
3. What is the reclamation plan for areas already mined out, and what will they be if
the new area is approved?
4. Finally, will the extension of this gravel pit create any additional traffic impacts
on Hwy 6? Is the access permit to the property sufficient or will it be required to
be amended by CDOT?
These are the Town of Gypsum's primary concerns at this time. Prior to this permit
- - - moving forward the Town would zppreciate responses to ±hese items. If you have any
question, please do not hesitate to contact the Town.
Very truly yours,
Town( o/f Gyp~sum~~~`/~J
ADMINISTRATION ~ J ~_.%~~'~-'7~ ~
J
Town Mana er Ken Long, Town Planner
Je{~ Shro~
lust.
