Cracks or Slides Yes Cracks approximately 1-inch
j wide run along the crest of the

i upstream slope, N~35°E from the
' primary spillway for a distance
I of 32'/: feet. Cracks
approximately 1-inch wide also
run along the crest of the
downstream face from the
primary spillway to the north
abutment, and 2-3 feet down the
slope, parallel to the crest, from
12 feet N45°N to 27 feet from
the primary spillway, [hen
sloping up the face to the crest
a[ 29 fee[ from the primary
spillway. No slumping, sliding
or displacement was noticed.
The cracks appear to be
desiccation or shrinkage cracks
as are common to much of the
surrounding areas.
Seepage No
Other No
Appurtenant Structures
Defective Spillways No
Dewatering Device Clogged No
Faulty Gates, Baffles, Pumps No
Other No
Additional Comments: None
1ltaintenance Required:
Uncover burrow and re-compact in-situ backfill to dam construction specifications. At the present degree
of damage, the burrow could likely be unwvered by hand spade work and the material replaced with hand
tamping. This work should be accomplished prior to the next period of sustained high water in the pond.
Reseed the downstream slope of the dam. The downstream, southeast facing slope appears to be difficult
to revegetate (slope, lack of moisture, and drying action from exposure to the sun). As no erosion
features have developed, reseeding, perhaps with some form of mulching and fertilization, during the next
optimum planting season is recommended.
Recommend:
Monitoring of rodent activity during quarterly inspections. Should burrows continue to be a problem,
implement additional rodent control procedures to halt the burrowing activity on the dam.
Canadian Mine Pond # 2 Inspection Report, 14 October 1993, Page 2 of 3
