iii iinuiinm iii
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor ~~
G.~ W ~1
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
DATE: February 2, 1987
T0: Trinidad Basin Mine, NOV File
FROM: Michael Long
RE: EXTENSION OF ABATEMENT
This memo is to document the rationale for extension of abatements for the
following NOV's C-86-073, C-86-068 and C-86-069
Notice of Violation C-86-073 was issued for failure to provide documentation
of monitoring data and failure to maintain ground water monitoring well W-1.
The operator has stated that he does have the monitoring information and that
it was to be filed with the Division by his consultant. He further stated he
would supply the information but it would take more time than originally
anticipated because his consultant has been relieved of his duties. In
addition, he stated he would be out to repair the damaged well in January.
Notice of Violation C086-068 was issued for failure to clean sediment Pond No.
15-P20. During the course of an inspection in early December the pond was
frozen over and snow covered. At this time it would be extremely difficult to
clean the pond given weather conditions.
Notice of Violation C-86-069 was issued for failure to repair and/or stabilize
rills and gullies in the Pit No. 2, cut 4/5 area. Inspectors were not able to
check the status of the violation in early December due to weather conditions.
There is no mining occurring on the site at this time. The site has been
reclaimed and is in the maintenance mode. In addition, there is no one on
site to perform routine maintenance. Based on present weather conditions and
to allow the operator time to collect monitoring information discussed above
the abatement for the above mentioned violations is being extended.
/vj r
7225E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
