Dept. of ~?atural f?as~prces <br />This responds to your letter dated 13 June 1980 requesting technical <br />assistance to analyze changes in the channel morphology of St. Vrain <br />Creek, and determine the associated impacts on stream bank erosion, <br />buffer instability and potential increase in flood hazard for surround- <br />ing lands. <br />The Omaha District's authority to provide technical assistance orig- <br />inates from The Water Resources Act of 1974, Section 55. It specifi- <br />cally authorizes technical and engineering assistance to non-Federal <br />governmental sub-divisions to develop solutions to specific shore- <br />line or streambank erosion problems. Our technical and engineering <br />assistance can include the following: <br />a. Conduct an on-site investigation to determine scope of erosion <br />problem. <br />b. Develop al[ernate methods to control the specific erosion problem. <br />c. Technical aid to strengthen the recipient in developing its own <br />capability to plan, design and contract for construction of erosion <br />protection. <br />d. Provide copies of pertinent Corps technical literature, informa- <br />tion and data. <br />e. Review of plans and specifications prepared by non-Federal public <br />interests or engineering firms for such interests. <br />f. Inspection of construction. <br />Such assistance does not include conducting engineering studies of the <br />type and scope requested in your letter. <br />
