As we had discussed several months ago, the
well depth readings for August through October, 1988 were not available
at Walden Coal Company's Boulder office. It was mX understanding
that I would forward this information to the Division as soon as it was
available (i.e. after my Spring trip to North Park). At your
insistence, the well depth readings were sent to me and are enclosed.
The Bourg Mine water monitoring wells have not been capped since
the Spring of 1984 when a high level of hydrogen sulfide was discovered
in them, creating a safety hazard. This situation was duly noted in
the Division's "Mid-Term Review for Bourg Strip Mine, Walden Coal
Company, C-021-81," dated May 9, 1985. I have included a copy of the
pertinent section of that report for your review.
I hope the information I have provided has clarified Walden Coal
Company's position on the above issues. If you have any questions or
require any further information please call.
Sincerely,
Ray J
Vice ent
