Mike Sherman (Field Habitat Biologist)
and Chad Morgan (District Wildlife Manager) have reviewed this Reclamation Permit Amendme~. Application and
made numerous field visits to the proposed thine site between Jules 5, 2000 and present.
• We highly rcopmrnend the installation oFnuonerous monitoring wells along the South Platte River within the
wetland complex and that pramining monitoring ocau av wdl as monitoring during the muting operation artd
posUmining mamitarittg. Such monitoring will allow for the long-tam health and vigor of this wetfartd
complex
~ ProP~ Pm.1~ does have the potential to negatively impact wildlife or wOdlife habitat. The proposed prpject is
located within a continuous three mile wetlattd complex along the South Platte River and is suaouoded by agricultural
land. This oomplcx includes lush wedaod and riparian habitat and is lmoavn to bo of extrmnely high value as wildlife
habitat. We have concerns that the mrretrnded slurry wall(s) may alter groundwater flow in the arts between the
ProP~~ post mining trostxvoirs and the South Platte River and thou negatively impact the abovemetrtiotsxl
vegetation complex. This complex includes merry mature cottonwood trees including those used by Bald eagles ae a
winter roost site:
The Colorado Division of Wildlife appreeiat~ this opportunity to comment on this projeu proposal.
