of Alma. There was a lazge metal culvert in place to cross the River at this location, but the road
above this culvert has been washed out prior to 1977. This access has not been used in years. No
accel/decel lanes have been required at any of the existing accesses. Since the gold mining operation
does not produce much off site traffic and since the gravel mining operation is not planning to in-
crease production over the past 3-4 yeaz period, no new accel/decel lanes aze needed for access.
All access roads aze compacted dirt or gravel and approximately 30' in width. Water or magnesium
chloride will be applied to all roads (primarily by the gravel mine personnel) to keep dust down
while mine vehicle traffic occurs. The Ducommun Business Trust agrees to provide one usable ac-
cess to the Gumaer property during mine operation and after reclamation. During mining, the access
location may move ,but it will always be provided.
1.4 Topsoil Handling for Gold Operation
The total disturbed azea for the gold mining operation is 84.5 acres. Of this amount, 36.5 acres were
disturbed pre-1977 and no topsoil was salvaged. Approximately 48 acres of new disturbance will
occur if all mine cuts aze disturbed. The salvageable soil for the undisturbed azeas is approximately
3-9 inches. An average of 4.5" thickness is assumed for the topsoil volumes from the undisturbed
areas.
The Ducommun Business Trust will do everything possible to reclaim old pre-law areas, but the fine
material that will be used to replace the lost topsoil can only be obtained from future operations.
Since the Trust cannot guazantee that future operations will be in place for the yeazs shown in this
application, the Trust cannot guarantee that all previously disturbed azeas will be topsoiled. The
Trust can guarantee that the operation will salvage all substitute fine material possible from all future
operations. In order to help reclaim past mining azeas, substitute topsoil will be obtained from sedi-
ment pond cleanout, pit pumping pond cleanout and slurry pond cleanout from the prep plant. This
material will be silty fine material and will be amended with fertilizer and mulch for reclamation. In
order to place 3" of this material on the azeas from pre-law disturbance less pond azeas left for the
final reclamation, (36.5 acres- 4.4 acres pond azeas for reclamation = 32.1 acres), approximately
Alma Placer 7/03 18
