D.3 Waste Rock Disposal
D.3.1 General
There are six waste rock disposal areas proposed as part
of the San Luis Project. As discussed in the introduction,
three of the six waste rock disposal areas remain unchanged
from the original permit. Area A has been eliminated
necessitating some redesignation of the disposal areas. The
East Pit Waste Rock Disposal Area remains unchanged. Waste Rock
Disposal Areas C and D have been renamed as Areas B and C but
the design remains the same. Area B has been redesignated Area
A and has been downsized. The South Waste Rock 'Disposal Area
has been relocated and redesigned to eliminate tailings
disposal. A new disposal area, Area D, has been designed south
of the Rito Seco between the south haul road and the eastern
permit boundary. The following sections will provide design
details of the downsized Area A, the redesigned South Waste
Rock Disposal Area, and the new Area D.
All amended waste rock disposal facilities have been
designed in accordance with previously approved design
characteristics. The areas have been designed with slope angles
of 33.5 degrees from the horizontal plane or 1.5 horizontal:l
vertical (1.5H:1V). In practice, the waste rock will be end
dumped in 50-ft maximum lifts and will assume a slope equal
to the angle of repose for the waste rock material. Upon final
reclamation, the outslopes will be adjusted by grading to a
3H:1V overall slope broken by 15-ft dozer width benches every
50 feet in vertical height. The waste rock disposal areas are
shown in plan view on Figure C-1.
D-2
