Other Items
The weed control plan is a good generic approach to the surveying, monitoring and treating of the weed populations
on the permit and ranch. As such, it is approvable in the context of this conversion application. There are few
specifics included, however, which limit this office from assessing the true adequacy and costs of the plan. I would
like for you to follow up with a competent weed authority to develop a plan (which should include a map of
problem areas, the acres involved and the weed species there) and details about the control methods, to be
subtnitted to this office before the coming "weed season." If it includes all the necessary items, it will be able to be
included and implemented under the DMG permit, without filing for another revision to the permit. It it turns out
to contain some "exotic" practices that could cost more than traditional methods, it might require another bond
recalculation, but foi now I will only include a "generic" weed control cost in the bond estimate, to get this
conversion approved sooner.
Please be reminded that your 1f 11106 response submittal constitutes "additional items" and as such must be
additionally filed with the county clerk and recorder (as the original conversion materials were). The receipt for the
additional filing must be received by this office prior to the decision date (which is still set for 1123106). If you
need addifional time to prepare or submit materials, including the clerk and recorder receipt, you may request an
extension in writing from this office. If this item or others identified in this letter are not addressed by the close of
business on the decision date, the application maybe denied.
I look forward to any responses or quesfions you might have. I may be reached at the Division's Durango field
office: 707 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301; telephone 970-247-5193.
Sincerely,
~~ ~~
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Matt Carnahan, PO Box 1951, Bayfield, CO 81122
Ec: Harry Posey, DMG
C:\0601docs\ignacio cn01 2adq/rco
