1. INTRODUCTION
Most species considered "weeds" in natural azeas aze invasive, and able to move
into and dominate or disrupt natural communities or restoration projects. The
purpose of this weed management plan is to prevent invasive plants from invading the
site. Prevention and eazly detection aze faz more cost effective than management.
Rabbit brush covers approximately 55% of the BLM site, and small amounts of
Indian ricegrass dot the landscape.
2. Management
Weed control is part of the overall site management and restoration program. We
focus on the species and communities we want in place of the weed species, rather
than on simply eliminating weeds. We will implement preventative programs to keep
the site free of species that aze not yet established there but which are known to be
pests elsewhere in the region. We will set priorities for the control or elimination of
weeds that have already established on the site, according to their actual and potential
impacts on native species and communities, particulazly on our target azeas. We will
take action only when careful consideration indicates leaving the weed unchecked
will result in more damage than controlling it with available methods.
A. Early detection and eradication of small patch weeds.
B. Monitor high-risk azeas including transportation and baze ground azeas.
C. Vegetate disturbed sights.
D. Control strategies include site visits with local weed management team.
3. Goals
The goal of the weed management plan is to restore the azea with native vegetation
and promote a better habitat. Monitoring and evaluation will be conducted yeazly
with the Chaffee County Weed supervisor. I have attached the list of noxious weeds
for the Chaffee county azea. Conservation services offered by the county include site
visits, technical consultation and advice, along with on site control services. All
information is attached as well as site visit check lists to be completed annually.
Kayette Hutchison
Environmental compliance
ACA PRODUCTS, INC.
719-395-3790
