iii iii-ii-iiii-i-ii
To: Assessment o
From: Janet Bin s
Re: Foidel Cree me, CV-2001-056
NOV CV-2001-004 was issued to Twentymile Coal Company's Foidel Creek Mine operation for failure
to conduct water sampling according to their approved plan.
This deviation from the approved water monitoring was appazent after the review of the 2000 Annual
Hydrology Report. The Division had discussions back and forth with the operator. The operator
collected samples on a Quarterly basis, which is not what was required. The required sampling was 4
"Quarterly pazameter list" sampling between Mazch and September. This schedule was agreed on by the
operator and [he Division to provide better data coverage during the time period of high water flow and
irrigation season. Also the operator had expressed concern about sampling in the winter months. Data
was supposed to be submitted to the Division quarterly but was not. Also a ground water well was
recorded as having a broken hydrant. This was not repaired in the entire 12 months the AHR covered.
Nor has it been repaired 6 months afer the end of the 2000 water yeaz.
After discussion the operator submitted additional water quality data that they had collected for internal
monitoring and water management. After review of the additional data the Division determined that the
water sampling was still insufficient. NOV CV-2001-004 was issued.
