They have now moved
their operation to the south of the previous pit. With the use
of a backhoe, they have removed topsoil to about 6' deep, which
has been trucked away from the site. There appears to be no
attempt to stockpile this topsoil for future reclamation. The
69 Ford dump truck being used to haul is registered to a Mr. James
J. Holt, 34707 HigFiway 160, Bayfield, Colorado 81122, License plate
NVV759.
The rock exposed by the removal of this topsoil is being separated
into piles for cru<_hing. The large rock, not readily usable, is
being left as rubble. Water is running through the area from their
previous pit, as well as overflow from the wommer irrigation ditch,
which is eroding the area. This water subsequently ends up in the I
Pine River. Pictures will be sent to you of the latest mining
operations.
Again, please help in this matter.
Sincerely,
Marga"ret Chesnut
7175 CR 501
Bayfield, Colorado
81122 Denver phone: 455-4466
P.S. We have been informed by a real estate company in Durango that
we can deduct a minimum of $70,000 when and if we sell our property due
to this mining operation.
