have an impact on our water supply and that the aquafers are joined. Also,
Summitville claimed it had state of the art design and equipment; what
happened to them?
"The project is located high and dry out of reach of even the worst imaginable
flood danger". Our experts show that the leach pond is right in the flood
plain which leads directly to our school on towards the town of San Luis. In
addition, the proposed site is right near an active fault line.
Gary Dodson says "it's safe". I say, yes Gary, it is safe.
you and your BMG "professional" employees. None of you live
of your children attend school at Centennial. Should someth
have nothing, and I repeat, nothing to lose. You tell those
safe it is when their school is inundated with cyanide, when
because of the tailings and when they're shook up because of
list just goes on.
It's seife for
in San Luis. None
ing happen, you
children how
they're. sick
the blasting and the
"BMG will not steal water from it's neighbors". I've seen pictures of water
gushing out of wells as well as having seen it for myself. He says that when
BMG is finished using the water rights, it, the water, will be returned to it's
agricultural use. I wonder. Never has water been returned to agricultural use
once it has been used for industrial purposes.
Gary Dodson has said that we are just a bunch of Mexicans with a welfare
mentality and that he refuses to work with the group that has been cesignated
as the intermediary - the Environmental Soundness Committee.
"BMG considers it a privilege to have the opportunity to operate in your community
and intend to earn that privilege by going out of our way to be gooc neighbors".
For a company that professes the desire to be such "good neighbors", Gary has
not only been extremely judgemental but down-right rude and self-righteous. He
has not only lied to this community both verbally and in writing, he has also
stolen. And he's right when he says that "stealing is both illegal and bad
business". It is not enough that he has degraded the people of San Luis, he
also tries to rob us of our rights for God-given things such as clean water
and air.
Gentlemen, it's not enough to hear, you must listen! We cry out fox help
which is what any/all of you would do if this gold mine were in your backyards.
Yes, we are emotional! San Luis, our home. We have land crops, animals and
families. Survival! Yes, for most, San Luis is all they have! Gentlemen,
San Luis is our life!
We, the people of San Luis, wish to choose our industry and as far as some of us
are concerned, mining is not it!
Gary Dodson says that the project has been permitted by the State of Colorado
and that other permits have been acquired along with necessary water rights. What
water rights? You granted them a permit without water rights and that goes
against the law - the written law!
You are our hope and again I ask that you listen to our plea. I also request
that a public hearing be held in the town of San Luis.
Thank you for your time and for your consideration of all of the above.
Respectfully
~,
ariam K. Manzanares
