each cell. This will tend to attenuate the influence of lower k/m ratios to a large
degree. Table 1 presents a summary of the range of values utilized for the two
pazameters in the sensitivity runs.
VI. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS
The model simulation results for the north mined area only and the combined
north and south mine area configurations are presented on Figures 4 and 5. In the
figures, the drawdown contours reflect the magnitude of the impacts of the
dewatering at steady-state conditions.
One significant test of any modeling study is an assessment of the qualitative
nature of the results in light of the model set-up, boundary conditions and the
nature of the stresses applied. In this case, the patterns of drawdowns appear
reasonable for the boundary conditions input. The contours exhibit the steep
gradient out from the dewatered areas that would be expected for a fairly
transmissive aquifer and- also exhibit a configuration that appears correct for a
dewatered area adjacent to a meandering stream system. The attenuating effects
of the Ski Lake under both mine configurations are also clearly exhibited in the
drawdown contours.
The magnitude of the drawdowns and the distance-drawdown patterns are seen to
differ only slightly from the north only mine area to the combined north-south
configuration. This is the direct result of the location of the stream with respect to
13
Martin and Wood Water Consultants, Inc.
