I. INTRODUCTION
This report describes the computer modeling analysis carried out for Aggregate
Industries, Inc. pursuant to the October 4, 2001 agreement with Martin and Wood
Water Consultants, Inc. The study was carried out for Aggregate Industries in
response to alleged impacts on nearby wells caused by dewatered mining
operations of the Platte Valley Pit. This report discusses the overall
hydrogeologic regime, the computer model design and construction, the
assumptions incorporated and the results of the simulations carried out.
II. PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to assist Aggregate Industries in assessing the
impacts on the local ground water system from dry mining that has been carried
out at the Platte Valley Pit to be located approximately 1-1/2 miles north of
Brighton, Colorado and along the South Platte River (Figure I, Vicinity Map). Of
concern was the pattern of drawdowns propagated in the alluvial aquifer by the
mining activities, and the potential for impacts on specific neighboring water
wells in the vicinity of the pit. A Mr. Brancucci has reported that he has been
experiencing water level impacts in several of a number of domestic supply and
high capacity irrigation wells located approximately 1,800 to 2,000 feet from the
eastern edge of the Platte Valley Pit property. Concerns have arisen over both the
current phase of mining (north mine phase) and the proposed additional mining
work to be carved out in the southern portion (south mine phase).
1
Martin and Wood Water Consultants, Irsc.
