G81-013: CC. Kent Gorham memo 4
I have requested information regarding the different production amount to be expected
between an irrigated pasture versus a dryland pasture. This information has not yet been
provided to me. A telephone conversation with Mr Ken Lair of NRCS estimated that an
irrigated hay field in good condition in the Weston area may produce "several tons" of hay
per acre. Mr. D. Chavez said that his hay production ranged from 850-950 Bales on the 10
acre pasture. Assuming a 60 Ib. bale this equates to 2.85 tons per acre. The NRCS
estimated anon-irrigated pasture in the same area may produce 1/x to 1 ton per acre. Mr.
D. Chavez stated that the 10 acres had produced 80 bales in 1995 without irrigation. Eighty
bales would be approximately 1/a ton.
