(Lafazge) is requesting a Technical Revision to our existing North
Delta Pit Permit to include a Weed Control Plan, as you requested in an August 9, 2005
site inspection.
The complete Weed Control Plan is enclosed and includes the following measures:
-Weed populations will be monitored and identified for control. An annual Weed
Control Plan will be developed accordingly, and follow-up evaluations will be
completed to evaluate control success.
-Herbicide application will mainly be used on perennial forb species such as
Canada Thistle, Field Bindweed, White Top, and Perennial Peppergrass.
Tamarisk will be controlled with Arsenal and Habitat and will be sprayed prior to
the end of September. Russian Olive will be cut down and the stump will be
treated with Garlon or a similar herbicide. If mature stands of Russian Olive aze
present, a foliar application of Arsenal will be used.
-Mowing of weeds that have just begun to flower will be conducted utilizing a
rotary brush hog mower.
-Temporary seeding of topsoil stockpiles will be used to create a stable vegetation
cover composed of native perennial species, which will help reduce the growth of
weedy species. Topsoil stockpiles will be mowed as is practicable to further
control weed species. A cover crop will be used on any stockpiles or sites that will
be redisturbed within six months.
-Rapid turnover of product stockpiles will be the most practical control for annual
weeds that may grow on them, as their configuration prevents mowing.
