III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
SENECA r r_
Coal Company

Ms. Erica Crosby
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203-2273
Seneca Coal Com
February 28, 1997
RE: Seneca II-W Mine Permit C-82-057, NOV C-95-023
Dear Ms. Crosby:
This correspondence is a request for a final extension of time for
the abatement of NOV C-95-023 to the Seneca II-W Mine Permit C-82-
057. The current abatement deadline for this NOV is Sunday, March
9th.
Seneca has initiated the field implementation of the abatement
plans approved in Technical Revision No. 25 for this violation. We
have removed the topsoil over the area which needs to be regraded.
Seneca still needs to finish getting the final slope back to a 3:1,
replace the topsoil and revegetate the redisturbed acreage. Also,
some additional drainage work needs to be redone. Because of the
weather and ground conditions over the winter months this work has
not been able to progress that much. Mobile equipment operator
safety on this slope is also a concern at the present time.
Unfortunately, the timetable for topsoil replacement and
revegetation activities cannot take place as well. To complete the
entire abatement plans will take us into the spring when all
snowmelt has taken place. Therefore, I am asking for this final 90-
day extension of the current deadline to June 7th.
Should you or any other members of the Division have any questions
regarding this information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
- ~I I..IJL~~/ !~
Michael G.
