I^ red States Department of Agricul. `e
o MRCS
Natural Resources Conservation Service
318 5'" Street
PO Boz 127
Hugo, CO 80821
EXHIBIT J
71&743.2408.OFFICE
719.743-2501-FAX
wwvr.co.rtres.usda.gov
RECEIVED
Subject: Lincoln County Gravel Pit JUN 2.8 2007
Reclamation Plan
Division of Keclamation,
To: Doa Blake Mining and Safety
Landuse Administer
Dste: December 9, 2003
The general vegetative survey in the azea of the barrow pit location consists mainly of a mixtuue of native grasses
and miscellaneous forbs on the upland site. The predominant grasses consist of blue grams, buffalo, and three awa
Some annual and perennial forbs present.
For soils description see attachment.
Enclosed is a reclamation plan for the barrow azea pit located in the SE, NW quarter of section 1-14-54.
Planning considerations for reclamation of the site consists of
1. Topsoil should be stockpiled before mining begins and spread evenly over the surface after reclaimed. Soils
must have sufficient depth to support the grass mixture to be seeded. Tbe area should be shaped to the
undisturbed azea. Slopes should not exceed 3:1 and should be flatter where feasible.
2. The seedbed should be well settled and firm but not compacted. If heavy equipment traffic has compacted
the azea it should be ripped and smoothed. The seedbed should be free of weeds.
3. A soil test should be preformed to determine the proper fertilizer requirement in both types and amounts. In
lieu of a soil test the planting area should be fertilized at a rate at least 401bs. of nitrogen and 401bs. of
phosphate. Animal manure maybe used to supply all or part of the nutrients. Fertilization should occur
around seeding time of the grass.
4. The seed mixture should consist of blue grams, sideoats grams, little bluestem, and western wheat (see
attached seed sheet). Grass dtilling should occur between November 1 through May 20's. Weeds should be
controlled mechanically or chemically until grass is established. Grazing should be excluded for two
growing seasons from the time of planting of the seeded areas. Fencing maybe needed to achieve this.
5. A minimum of 40001bs. of grass (native) mulch per acre should be applied to the surface after the grass has
been seeded to hold the ground until the grass has established. The mulch should be crimped into the
surface with a mulch crimper at a 4 inch depth. The mulch should be weed free and not moldy.
If you need any further assistance please contact us.
Respectfully,
r~.~.~..
Brian C.
