We appreciate your inquiry as to the status of the
project and attendant request that we respond to the issue raised in your letter.
As you know, we have been undertaking a phased final reclamation and closure program at the
project site for the last several years. Those activities, to a large extent, have been documented in
our Annual Reclamation Report filings with the Division and have been addressed, as appropriate
and necessary, under several Technical Revision Plan filings/approvals for incorporation within the
current MLR Permit.
In order to establish a date by which Homestake initiated final reclamation and closure activity at
the Bulldog Mine (and therefore ended the period of Temporary Cessation that commenced on 21
April 1989), we believe that an appropriate date would be at the time when a decision was made to
dismantle and remove the mill and processing equipmenUbuildings from the 9360 production portal
and processing site area. Consequently, we believe an appropriate date for commencement of
final site reclamation and closure at the Bulldog Mine would be June 1, 1993. As referenced in an
August 13, 1994 DMG Inspection report prepared by A. Sorenson of your staff, it was documented
that building !equipment demolition was proceeding in the_mill site area on that date.
Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the project and the
present status of reclamation and closure of the site. We would welcome you and any members of
your staff to visit the site as well to review the progress and present status of the project. I can be
reached in our Grants office at (505) 287-4456 Ext.25 or by cell phone at (505) 400-2794.
Sincerely Yours,
Homestake Mining Co. of California
Alan D.
