RUG 27 '9c 02~25PM RUMINISTRRTION
properly bermed.
Are additional controls necessary? N
Is the Materials Containment Plan adequate? Y
If no, explain.
Describe the wastewater treatment processes:
Precipitation and runoff are treated by
sedimentation ponds. Domestic wastewater is
treated with a small sctivated sludge plant.
SECTION D: OPERATION/MAINTENANCE:
9. Evaluate the treatment facility. Include in this evaluation a
discussion of any operation and maintenance problems:
The operator of the domestic wastewater plant ie
required by the permit to perform composite
sampling on the influent. Since the influent
consists mostly of shower water and the operator
"feeds" the plant pig food directly into the
aeration basin to maintain the activated sludge,
composite influent sampling would not appear to be
appropriate. The composite sampling method does
not indicate the entire loading on the plant. The
sampling is done prior to the pig food being added
directly to the aeration basin. Eighty-flue per
cent removal of BOD is also a requirement of the
permit. This requirement may also be unrealistic
considering the low BODs of shower water and the
periodic nature of round the clock shift work at a
coal mine.
outfall 006 had a violation on a sample collected
by MLRD. TS3 was 90 mg/1, permit parameter for
TSS is 70. The culvert decant device developed a
small leak which allowed s trickle of water to
enter the spillway of large angular riprap type
material. The spillway has a run of several
hundred yards prior to entering Roatcap Creek. It
is doubtful that any of the discharge reached the
creek. outfall 006 is served by one large pond
with r~o baffling and extensive sedimentation.
outfall 004 is served by a small settling pond
near the coal storage yard along Colo Highway 133,
This outfall had a violation recently; TSS was 35D
mg/1, permit parameter for TSS is 70 mg/1. The
outfall allows effluent to enter a large meadow
(2-3 acres) nearby. There ie no actual discharge
to state waters. The Farmer'a Irrigation Canal
and Lhe North Fork of the Gunnison River are both
nearby. Coal Yines could be observed in the
lowest part of the meadow.
F'. 6~9
