hydrostatic head to remain low in the impoundment. The
collection pond is double lined with a leak detection
system. This system can be readily accessed and is
frequently checked. If a leak is detected irk the top
liner, the liner can then be inspected and repai~ed. All
solution is automatically collected and auto atically
returned to the milling circuit, preventing any ischarge
to the environment through the secondary liner.
(6) Cyanide Interception, Containment and Remedial~lan:
If the tailings area leak detection system yi lds more
than the approved 4.5 gallons/minute rate of low, and
cyanide is detected within that effluent, B G shall
evaluate all groundwater monitoring data to etermine
whether any cyanide contamination has occurred. (Further,
BMG shall develop and submit an interception, containment
and remedial plan for impacted groundwater, surf ce water
and soil. This plan shall be submitted to the~Division
for review and approval within ten days ~ollowing
detection of cyanide in the leak detection syst m.
Discussion•
Monitoring results obtained to date from the collection
pond confirm that the concern presented in item s x is not
occurring. However, as time permits, we will ubmit an
action plan for approval. We do not anti ipate a
reportable leak in the primary lining; however, a are in
agreement that a remediation plan should be dev loped.
(7) Amendment of Ore Processing Methodolo~~:
BMG's preliminary suspicions of altered meta lic ore
content and the coincidental failure of the designed
processing cyanide recovery circuit are indicat'ons that
the ore processing methodology currently being a plied by
BMG may require significant modification. If BMG
determines it necessary to modify its ore p ocessing
methodology, BMG shall submit appropriate permit revision
applications to the Division. Appropriate permit amend-
ments, supported by comprehensive analytical re ults and
design evaluations, shall be submitted by BM to the
Division for review and approval no later than 45 days
following completion of the cyanide detoxification of the
tailings areas contents, described in item (4) bove.
Discussion•
All available exploration samples are being re-as~ayed for
cyanide soluble copper. Assaying is expecte to be
complete April 30, 1992, at which time the copp r assays
