It is anticipated that mining
will continue in Section 15.
In addition to the above, the following environr~ntal baseline work
has been initiated: 1) The geologist has been advised to obtain over-
burden samples and prepare them for laboratory analysis. Also, if water
is eraoountered in any of the holes, instructions were given to note the
depth at which the groundwater was intercepted. FLirther instructions
will be given to record groundwater flow. 2) A soil survey was conducted
at the site by Mr. Craig Sommers of Mined Reclamation Consultants, Inc.
The Meld work has been completed and the final report will be sulxnitted
within the near future. The survey was done pursuant to the new MLR
coal regulations. All the soil samples have been analyzed as per MLR
recommendations and the results indicate all are suitable for reclamation
purposes. 3) The SCS was contacted to determine if any prime farmland
exists at the site and they advise that no priJre farmland is present at
the site. In addition, they have advised that the mine has not been
irrigated in the past. I have enclosed a copy of the letter for your files.
4) Preliminary vegetation mapping has teen done and it will be completed
within one week after receipt of the aerial photographs. 5) Preliminary
mapping (map enclosed) of the (iAL has teen completed at the site.
Pdditjonal mapping must be done in Sections 10, 15 and 22. A spring
inventory was done in ~1 Agua Canyon and the remainder of the spring
inventory will be completed within the next two weeks. 6) The state
historian has been crontacted to determine if, any cultural or historical
features exist at the site. Please refer to the attached letter for his
determination on these features. The county historian has been contacted
for a listing of the cultural and historical resources they have on file
for the site and when they respond to the request a Dopy of the response
will be forwarded to MLR.
TBM has undertaken a program to obtain aerial photographs and maps
of the mine site. A surveyor has been contracted to install the ground
control panels needed for the photos and mapping, with this work to be
compl@ted by October 12, 1980. Upon completion of the establishment of
the ground control panels, Kuchera and Associates will be notified and
they will then schedule the aerial photAgraphy. It is hoped that the
photos and maps will be available by the end of Cctober or the first
week of November.
$reliminary overburden calculations cannot be sutmitted at this
time due to the fact that not enough information to generate overburden
volum~3s that have any meaning. The work TBM has initiated will provide
the information necessary to generate accurate overburden voltmies.
