2.7.6 Hydrologic Balance
A discussion of the hydrologic balance of the permit area follows.
Precipitation, evapotranspiration, surface runoff and ground-water
recharge are considered in this water balance.
2.7.6.1 Precipitation
The climate in the region is semi-arid. Since 1936, annual precipitation
at Craig has averaged approximately 13 inches and has varied from a
minimum of 7.4 inches to a maximum of 20.8 inches. The maximum monthly
precipitation occurred in October 1941 and Sune 1945 when 4.55 :Cnches
were recorded. No precipitation was recorded during October 1952.
Point precipitation data for various projected storm occurrence:a were
obtained from U. S. Weather Bureau records and SCS estimation procedures.
Precipitation values for different frequencies are given in the following
tabulation.
AVERAGE
FREQUENCY
PRECIPITATION
OCCURRENCE
ONE-HOUR
POINT
PRECIPITATION
(Inches)
SIX-HOUR
POINT
PRECIPITATION
(Inches)
24-HOUR
POINT
PRECIPITATION
(Inches)
Mean Annual 0.44
10-year 0.64
25-year 0.78
50-year 0.83
100-year 0.93
Probable Maximum 5.9
0.90
1.3
1.6
1.7
1.9
12
1.1
1.7
2.0
2.2
2.5
21
Average monthly values of precipitation are given in Table 2.7-23
2-525
