EXHIBIT H
WILDLIFE INFORMATION
The reclamation plan for the site after the mining is completed is to create recreational
uses for the pond and surrounding area.
The most critical habitat and corridor for wildlife is immediately along the river. As noted
on Exhibit C, the mining will be setback a minimum of 50 feet from the river.
Revegetation of the site will include planting native grasses, trees, and shrubs which will
benefit wildlife in the area. In addition, any trees removed during excavation shall be
replaced by new plantings along the riparian portion of the property to help enhance
wildlife.
**The Colorado Division of Wildlife has been contacted for their input and can offer the
following recommendations and observations:
The land is not significant wildlife habitat and will not permanently displace any
species. The reclamation plan will create better habitat than currently exists.
The property is currently used as agricultural land for farming and grazing of
livestock.
W1110fe Soecles Llst
Wildlife species indicative of a lowland riparian ecosystem would occur on the property.
Common wildlife species found on or near the site include whitetail deer, raccoon, fox
squirrel, rock squirrel, red fox, striped skunk, beaver, small rodents, bats, and several
species of songbirds and raptures. No nesting activity by hawks has been documented
in this area.
The existing large pond in Island Grove Park to the east currently contains a diverse
warm water fishery including: sunfish (mixed species), largemouth bass, crappie, black
bullhead, carp, suckers, and a variety of forage fish. Additionally, one can find several
species of reptiles and amphibians associated with the pond and adjacent shoreline. Any
of these species can be expected to be found in the smaller ponds at the north end of
the proposed site.
**NOTE: See Division of Wildlife letter under Exhibit E.
H-1
