On this type of site the USDA Soil Conservation
Service standards and specifications suggest the following proceedures;
1)The top 8"-12" of topsoil should be removed and stockpiled prior to
mining the site. If the soil is to be stored for more than one year, the
pile should be seeded to cover to prevent wind erosion and reduce weed
infestations.
2)During reclamation the existing contours and drainage patterns should be
maintained as much as :possible. Slopes should be graded to 4/1 or lees.
3)After reseeding, 3000-40001bB/acre of weed free native grass hay should be
used as mulch. This mulch should be crimped in to a depth of 3-4". This
will help reduce erosion while the grass is germinating.
If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me at
the above address or phone me at (303)356-6506.
Sincerely,
1147
Dwayne E.
