EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
Amendment Area A is the area to be mined. This area is along the Cache LaPoudre
River east of 21 st Avenue, north of the Colorado and Southern Railroad, and west of the
City of Greeley Island Grove Park. The total area to be mined is approximately 30 acres.
Amendment Area B will be used as a temporary location for the portable processing plant
while the mining is being completed in the current permit area. Area B will be used for
some stockpiling. This area is approximately 24 acres.
The proposed mining method will be done as a dry mining operation. The existing mining
area has operated as a dry mining operation for the past 10 years. A dewatering trench
will be constructed around the perimeter of the mining area by phases and water will be
removed by pump to an adjacent pond for settling and percolation into the alluvium. The
location of the pond is shown on Exhibit C.
The deposit to be mined is the valley fill deposit along the Cache La Poudre River. This
deposit consists of sands and gravels with interspersed layers of silt and clay lenses.
The deposit is relatively well graded and has aggregates as large as 12 inches and many
fines passing the 200 micron sieve. The material will mainly be used as a pit run product.
This means there is little crushing or washing done and it is excavated and hauled directly
from the site. Occasionally some of the material will be washed and crushed.
Approximately 5% of this material becomes reject or waste and is used for backfilling in
reclamation.
The area will be mined in two phases using scrapers and front-end loaders. We expect
the mining to last for twenty (20) years.
Phase 1 will start on the northeast side of the property and move to the southeast.
Material in the lowlands area along the Poudre River and the City of Greeley Island Grove
Pond will be removed and cleaned up first. This area was disturbed by other operators
prior to the mining laws. Approximately 8.53 acres will be disturbed in Phase 1. During
the initial phase of the ruining, there will be very little topsoil to be removed. All
overburden and topsoil was removed by previous mining operators.
The portable processing plant will be moved into area A during the mining of Phase 1.
This plant will be located at the site of the Old Farmhouse. (The farmhouse was given
to the Western Hills Fire Protection District and was recently burned for training and
practice.)
D-1
