~LAFARG E
NORTH AMERICA
Construction Materials
September 9, 2004
Mr. Thomas Schreiner
Colorado Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIiiEC
SEP i 02004
Division of Minerals and Geology
' `~~
RE: 351h Avenue Pit, MLRB Permit No. M-1977-036 Technical Revision Na t, G~deo ~ ~
Mr. Schreiner,
Per your compliance letter of August 9, 2004, Lafazge West, Ina (Lafazge) is requesting a
Technical Revision (TR) to our permit for the 35`~ Avenue Pit located in Greeley, Colorado in
Weld County. The TR is in response to the Division's request for a weed control plan for
tamarisk including control methods to be implemented and a schedule for the when the various
control methods will be employed.
Lafarge is proposing use of the herbicides Arsenal and Habitat to control the tamarisk. Habitat
will be used in areas where spray will come in contact with water; it is approved for use in and
around standing and flowing water. The spraying will occur before the end of September, as the
herbicides are foliar applications and only effective while the plant has green leaves. Future
applications, if necessary, will occur during the late summer and/or eazly fall. For cost
effectiveness, the infected areas will be aerially sprayed via helicopter. The aerial spray will be
supplemented by hand spraying in areas of small or isolated infestation, and azeas neighboring
desired vegetation.
Lafazge has successfully treated other sites with the proposed actions and believes the TR meets
the Division's requests. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please do
not hesitate to contact me at 303-657-4421.
Best regards,
Suzanne Janzen
Land Specialist
LAFARGE NORTH AMERICA INC. -Lafarge Construction Materials
1400 West 64~ Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80221
Telephone: (303) 657-4000 Facsimile: (303) 657-4037
