to the Board to allow mining has been proven true. These depths measured should also be accounted
to the fact that the property where the mining will be conducted is currently under irrigation by a local
fanner, so depths during mining are expected to be lower than the levels measured, but the mining
plan will still be based upon these measurements. We firmly believe that encountering water will not
happen in this pit. A very detailed presentation of data supporting this conclusion was submitted by
Greg Lewicki and Associates to the County Commissioners dated 6/8/2004.
La Salle Aggregate Reserves, LLC currently owns the property where Haldorson Sand and Gravel is
permitted to mine. Recently, La Salle Aggregate Reserves acquired land adjacent to the permit area
and is also allowing Haldorson Sand and Gravel to mine on this property. This permit previously
contained the Metcalf Pit of Western Gravel, Inc. The pit has been partially reclaimed but will be used
to mine gravel from the low point of the gravel reserve along the outcrop. Mining will continue south
and west from this property, thus helping to mitigate visual impacts for residents of Spring Creek
Mesa. The addition of La Salle Aggregate's Metcalf Pit Property and the Bean Property now
combined with the original Haldorson Permit area (George Property) allow the final reclamation of
the site to drain toward the valley in a natural fashion. The previous mine plan for the George
Property alone would have created a large depression in the landscape for the final reclamation plan.
The new plan shown on the enclosed maps allows natural drainage to the northeast, which is more or
less the current drainage pattern. Due to a) opposition from owners south of the original George
Property and b) lesser grave] thicknesses, the southern 40 acres of the original mining area has been
removed from the permit. Haldorson Sand and Gravel is amending their existing permit in order to
include these additional areas. The new permit area is 180.27 acres, of which approximately 173.79
acres will be disturbed.
The current land use on the property is irrigated fields. After reclamation is completed, the land will
be restored back to irrigated fields. The mining of the Haldorson Property is consistent with the
nearby (and-use as can be seen on Map B-2 there are cun•ently and have been in the past several
gravel mines in the immediate vicinity.
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine
