SCS Reclamation Information -August 31, 1978
The pit is located in a sandy wash known as Sand Arroyo. The soil material is recently
deposited sands. There is no vegetation on the site. The area is subject to annual flooding which
brings added sand deposits to the azea. The mining operation takes advantage of this and continually
mines from the same area as new deposits are washed down. Revegetation would be impractical as
the site occurs naturally as unvegetated sands.
If arroyo banks aze to be backsloped and seeded, the seed mix recommended is:
Species #/A PLS
Covington Blue Grama 1.0
Indian Ricegrass 4.0
Sand Dropseed 0.1
Yellow Sweetclover 2.0
7.1 #PLS
If required by the Division the arroyo banks will be backsloped at 3H: I V. The operator feels
that this would be a redundant gesture as the backslopes will be washed away by flood waters and
left vertical.
