GB/LLC <br />04/2003 <br />MANZANOLA SERIES <br />rage r trr ~ <br />The Manzanola series consists of very deep, well drained soils that formed in alluvial materials derived <br />from sedimentary rock. Manzanola soils are on fans, valley side slopes, drainageways, plains, and <br />stream terraces. Slope gradients are 0 to 25 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 13 inches <br />and mean annual temperature is about 52 degrees F. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, smectitic, mesic Ustic Haplargids <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Manzanola clay loam -grassland (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.) <br />A--O to 5 inches; grayish brown (2.SY 5/2) light clay loam, dazk grayish brown (2.SY 4/2) moist; strong <br />very fine granular stmcture; soft, very friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; calcareous; slightly <br />alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (4 to 7 inches thick) <br />BA--S to 8 inches; grayish brown (lOYR 5/2) clay loam, dark grayish brown (lOYR 412) moist; <br />moderate medium subangulaz blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable, slightly sticky, slightly <br />plastic; few faint clay films on faces of peds and in root channels and pores; calcareous; moderately <br />alkaline; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 5 inches thick) <br />Bt--8 to 20 inches; brown (lOYR 5/3) clay loam, brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; weak medium prismatic <br />structure parting to moderate medium and fine angular blocky; slightly hard, friable, sticky, plastic; few <br />faint continuous clay films on peds and in root channels and pores; calcareous; moderately alkaline; <br />gradual wavy boundary. {7 to 24 inches thick) <br />Btk--20 to 30 inches; light yellowish brown (2.SY 6/3) clay loam, light olive brown (2.SY 5/3) moist; <br />weak medium prismatic structure parting to moderate medium subangular blocky; hard, friable, slightly <br />sticky, slightly plastic; few faint clay films on peds and in root channels and pores; secondary calcium <br />carbonate masses; calcazeous; moderately alkaline; gradual wavy boundary. (5 to 13 inches thick) <br />Bk--30 to 60 inches; pale yellow (2.SY 7/3) light clay loam, light olive brown (2.SY 5/3) moist; <br />massive; hard, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; calcium carbonate masses; calcareous; moderately <br />alkaline. <br />TYPE LOCATION: Crowley County, Colorado; 0.1 mile south of the east 1/4 corner of Sec. 7, T. 20 <br />S., R. 55 W. <br />RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: <br />Soil moisture: moist in some part May and June and intermittently July and August.
